Earlier tonight on NASCAR RaceDay on SPEED, they had an interesting interactive question for the fans that read "What Charlotte Motor Speedway race is most important? with the choices being the All-Star race, Coca-Cola 600 and the Bank of America 500 (Chase race). Its a fair question to ask and the responses were interesting with the fans ultimately picking the Coke 600 by a very small margin of victory.
Actually that an easy question as while each race at CMS is an important race for several different reasons, the Coca-Cola 600 in May is the most important race at CMS. Why?
Well, let's start with the All-Star race. The All-Star race is worth $1 Million Dollars to win, but its an All-Star race where only a select number drivers and teams actually race in this event and there is no points on the line.
Second, is the Chase race currently known as the Bank of America 500. The chase race certainly is a big race from the standpoint of possibly winning the championship especially with the 10-race chase. But its one of the 10 chase races that are all important in trying to win the championship. Of course the chase race would be less important if NASCAR removed the chase and the championship was determined by how you scored in all 36 races and not just the final 10 races.
So that leaves the most important race at CMS, the Coca-Cola 600 in May. To me, in NASCAR, there are five huge races during each season/year that all drivers and teams want to win including the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, Southern 500 at Darlington, August Bristol Race and of course the Coca-Cola 600.
The Coca-Cola 600 os not only NASCAR's longest race and longest night, but the Coke 600 is the second biggest race of the season/year. Therefore its no doubt that the Coca-Cola 600 is the most important race at CMS. And there is also no doubt that the Daytona 500 is the biggest race in NASCAR.
